OF HER RELATIONSHIP WITH ART, ALEJANDRA STATES, “AS A FEMALE IMMIGRANT COMING FROM A LOW INCOME HOME, I KNOW FIRST HAND THAT NO ONE HAS CONTROL OVER MY LIFE. IT IS UP TO ME. I CAN EITHER USE MY INTELLECT AND TALENT TO GO FAR, OR SETTLE. I CHOOSE TO IMPACT, TO INSPIRE, TO BE A LEADER AND A ROLE MODEL. I WAS GIVEN A GIFT AND MY JOB IS TO POLISH IT AND USE IT TO DO GOOD, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE AS IMPORTANT. I CHOOSE ART OVER EVERYTHING.”
